PRESS RELEASE- RESCUE RELIEF 2009

Rescue Relief 2009, a benefit for local Tallahassee area pet rescue groups, concluded on January 4th and, by all accounts, was a huge success. The event, sponsored by Northwood Animal Hospital and The Animal Hospital and Pet Resort at Southwood, highlights area pet rescue groups and collects donations such as food, supplies, and money to support the group’s needs during the year. “The local response we received for donation requests exceeded all of our expectations,” said Dr. Kevin Brumfield, one of the event organizers. “The soft economy has affected these groups by increased owner relinquishment of pets and fewer monetary donations. We were concerned this would also affect the success of the benefit. Lucky for everyone involved, local pet lovers came to the rescue and insured this would not be the case.” The combined total value of the items collected was over $6,700, bringing the three year total to over $20,000.

The groups that benefited from Rescue Relief include Leon County Humane Society, Tallahassee Big Dog Rescue, ECAH Animals, Gadsden County Humane Society, Jefferson County Humane Society, Tallahassee Ferret Rescue, Tallahassee Collie Rescue, Angels that Purr Cat Rescue, Sighthound Rescue, Tallahassee Ferret Rescue, and It’s Meow or Never Cat Rescue. The annual event began in mid November and ran until the end of the year. Northwood Animal Hospital and The Animal Hospital and Pet Resort at Southwood would like to extend thanks to everyone who contributed to the cause.
